How to get there

By Air There are two international airports on Crete, Heraklion Airport and Chania Airport. Please choose Heraklion Airport for your arrival and departure.

Heraklion International Airport is the primary airport on the island of Crete, Greece, and the country’s second busiest airport after Athens International Airport. It is located about 5 km east of the main city center of Heraklion and ~25 km from Hersonissos and Creta Maris Hotel. The Heraklion Airport serves as a hub for Sky Express and Aegean Airlines. In addition to the airlines mentioned above, Heraklion Airport also services domestic flights to and from the other Greek islands, such as Santorini, Rhodes, Mykonos and Paros.

Flights to Heraklion are available by many airlines from various parts of Europe. These charter flights come mostly from France, Italy, Germany, Russia, Romania and the United Kingdom. You can travel to Heraklion, Crete from anywhere in the world via Athens (Greece). The distance from Athens is about 205 Miles and there are several flights a day (air time from Athens to Heraklion is about an hour).

By Ferry

Ferry boat connection between Athens (Piraeus) and Crete is available directly to Heraklion by both MINOAN Lines and ANEK Lines. On arrival at Heraklion port travelers can choose between the bus and taxi options.

Travel in Crete

Taxi

Taxi is the most convenient way for travelling. The rates are more or less fixed for all taxi companies. The approximate fare from Heraklion airport or port is 45€ per transfer. Taxi transfers can be arranged and when possible, we can group participants arriving at similar times to share a taxi, thus splitting the cost. Bus

Crete offers an excellent bus service to take you to any part of Crete at very good prices. On arrival at Heraklion Airport participants can take a town bus or taxi to the Heraklion bus station (KTEL). From the bus station, busses leave for Hersonissos town regularly from 06:00 to 21:00.
